摘要 1292670 Anodes for brine electrolysis; sintered coatings ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP 22 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968 21 Nov 1969] 62464/69 Headings C7B, C7D [Also in Division B2] An anode suitable for use in the electrolysis of brines comprises an electrically conductive substrate having adhering thereto a coating comprising ruthenium dioxide and a carbide of one or more of B, Si, Ti, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W. The substrate may comprise a corrosion resistant valve metal, e.g. Ti, Ta, Nb, Hf, Zr, W, Al, and alloys thereof. The valve metal may be present as a layer on a base metal such as copper. The coating may be formed by applying a slurry of a carbide in liquid medium containing ruthenium by brushing, spraying or dipping and then firing a coating in an oxidizing atmosphere. The ruthenium may be present as a salt, oxide or the metal as a fine powder or dissolved in aqueous or organic medium. Alternatively, the ruthenium salt, oxide or metal is applied on the substrate followed by an application of finely divided carbide, and the coated substrate then fired. The coating composition may contain additives, e.g. fluxes for improving the adherents, continuity and abrasion resistance of the coating. The concentration of ruthenium oxide in the coating may range from 5% to 90% by weight, and carbide from 10 to 95% by weight. Several applications of the coating composition may be deposited, preferably firing after each application.
