The device has a support for shelf mounted at a lateral wall of a storage furniture. Another support for the shelf is mounted at another lateral wall of the furniture. A slot is provided between the supports and a bottom of the storage furniture. A counterweight is inserted in the slot, and is placed near to a base of the storage furniture. A rectangular steel plate (1) made up of a heavy material is inserted vertically in the slot. An independent claim is also included for a method to prevent swinging of a piece of storage furniture such as a wardrobe with respect to an anti-tilting device.
