The unit has a gear (7) e.g. stepless gear, with a changeable gear transmission ratio. A control lever (1) movable between multiple positions and a control circuit (10) adjust the gear to the ratio specified by the lever using actuators. One of the positions is assigned to the ratio specified by the lever. The circuit is switched between a manual operating mode and an automatic operating node. The circuit is specified in the gear by placing the lever in one of the positions, in the manual operating mode.
