817,591. Gas-turbine plant; axial and radial flow compressors. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., C. A. Oct. 21, 1955 [Nov. 8, 1954], No. 32228/54. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). A vehicle gas-turbine plant comprising a turbine and two compressors has the turbine directly coupled to one of the compressors, the second compressor and the output shaft of the vehicle being connected to the turbine through a differential gear. A turbine b drives a highpressure compressor, c by means of a shaft c1 which terminates in a pinion d forming part of an epicyclic differential gear a. Planet wheels e of the epicyclic gear are connected by a carrier f to the output shaft. The sun wheel g is connected to the low-pressure compressor h. The gas turbine is started by a motor i driving the sun wheel g through a pinion j. In a modification, the low-pressure compressor is driven directly by the turbine and the highpressure compressor by two epicyclic gears. In this arrangement the sun wheel g is connected to the input pinion of a second epicyclic gear, the planet wheel carrier of which is connected to the high-pressure compressor. Brakes or clutches associated with the sun wheel of the second epicyclic gear may be used to vary the speed of the high-pressure compressor. Both compressors may be of the axial or radial flow type or one may be axial flow and the other radial flow. |
