<p>Yarn supplied to the needle of a tufting machine passes around a pulley secured to an associated drive roll which is rotatably mounted on a movable support, pref. a lever, which is selectively movable by a patterning mechanism (pref. a Jacquard mechanism) to move the drive roll into driven contact with one or other of two driven rollers rotating in the same direction at different speeds, whereby the rate at which yarn is fed by the pulley to needle can be selectively adjusted to vary the size of the pile loop and thereby produce a relief pattern. The device is simpler than clutch operated devices and can produce a wide variety of patterns.</p> |
