<p>A variable valve (1002-C) for impact dispersal of a force, such as a force caused by an impact or explosion. The apparatus includes a valve (1002-C) with a spring biased piston (1104'') that engages an outlet bore (1124'') as the piston (1104'') moves in response to the pressure of a fluid at an inlet port (1112). The valve (1002-C) is in fluid communication with a cylinder (112) that receives an impulse force (202). The fluid flow from the cylinder (112) is controlled by the variable valve (1002-C), which disperses the force (202) accordingly at a controlled rate. In one embodiment, a pressurized reservoir (1204) is connected to an extension valve (314) and a check valve (316) that allows the cylinder (112) to be filled with fluid (204) from the reservoir (1204) when the extension valve (314) is actuated. Applications for such a system include connection to aircraft seats (1700) and to aircraft landing gear (1900).</p> |
