PURPOSE: An apparatus for providing traffic information in a mobile communication system and a method thereof are provided to apply TPEG(Transport Protocol Experts Group) data to a portable terminal which does not support a function such as a function of a DMB reception device. CONSTITUTION: A data processing unit(124) confirms TPEG information for informing generation of accident matters among the TPEG information received from a service provider. A control unit(122) performs a channel connection request to a portable terminal positioned in a DMB reception shadow area. The control unit generates a channel except for a DMB with respect to the portable terminal. The control unit provided the TPEG information through the channel except for the generated DMB.
