<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device capable of reducing loads applied to a member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This sheet conveying device 200 is provided with a shutter 210 for limiting the insertion of a sheet P by being brought into a front edge of the sheet P, a discharge mechanism 220 for moving the shutter 210 to a limitation position where the insertion of the sheet P is limited or a non-limitation position where the insertion of the sheet P is not limited, a delivering mechanism 230 for delivering the sheet P when the shutter 210 is moved to the non-limitation position, a conveying mechanism 240 for conveying the sheet P delivered by the delivering mechanism 230, a retard pad 250 for separating the sheets P double-fed by the delivering mechanism 230 one by one by holding the sheets P together with the conveying mechanism 240, and an interlocking mechanism 260 for making the movement of the retard pad 250 interlocked with the movement of the shutter 210.
