PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-(aryloxymethyl)benzaldehyde compound with a high yield and an intermediate thereof. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 2-(aryloxymethyl)benzaldehyde compound (3) comprises reacting a 2-(aryloxymethyl)benzal halide compound (1) with an alcohol compound in the presence of at least one alkaline earth metal compound selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth metal oxide, hydroxide and carbonate to give a 2-(aryloxymethyl)benzaldehyde acetal compound (2) and then reacting the compound with water in the presence of an acid.
