<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology to suppress variations in intake air volume even if a less-accurate sensor is used instead of a broken sensor, in a valve system for an internal combustion engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Before it is determined that a first sensor fails, feedback control over an operating angle is performed based on a position measured by at least the first sensor. After it is determined that the first sensor fails, the feedback control over the operating angle is performed based on a position measured by a second sensor.
