<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball screw device having further improved safety, wherein a screw stem itself functions to stop linear movement. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On the screw stem 2, a small diameter portion 14 is provided which is rotatable relative to a ball spline outer cylinder 4 and enters into the ball spline outer cylinder 4 when arriving at an ultimate position. To a portion ranging to the small diameter portions of spline tracks 2b, 2c of the screw stem 2, chamfering 21 is applied so that balls are easy to return to the spline tracks 2b, 2c when the screw stem 2 is moved in the reverse direction.
