IMPROVED COATED ABRASIVE ARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel coated abrasive article which contains agglomerated abrasives characterized by having high porosity and a smaller solid volume than the apparent volume and has very significant grinding properties at approximately medium to low pressure. SOLUTION: The coated abrasive article includes a base material and agglomerated abrasives bonded to the base material with a binder. The agglomerated abrasives have a three-dimensional structure. In the three-dimensional structure, an abrasive grain is bonded to at least one adjacent abrasive grain by a grain bonding material that exists as a discontinuous phase in form of a bonding post within each of the agglomerated abrasives, whereby the agglomerated abrasives have a rough filling volume that is at least 2% smaller than the rough filling volume of abrasive grains that are in an independent state.
