The device is mainly used for supporting machines and apparatuses. It permits both the shock absorption of large amplitudes in the vertical direction and also the support of a large weight. A carrier (8) for the object which is to be supported is arranged in a base (10) which is constructed as a frame and is provided with a base surface (7). Both the base (10) and the carrier (8) are provided with mutually parallel side walls (15, 16) on whose opposite surfaces (43, 44) rubber strips (17) are mounted, via which the carrier (8) is supported in an elastically flexible manner on the base (10). Each of the rubber strips (17) has two flat cross-sectional sections (21, 22), which are inclined with respect to one another and of which the lower section (21) engages under the carrier (8) while the upper section (22) is at right angles to the base surface (7). As a result of the inclined position of the lower cross-sectional section (21) with respect to the upper section (22), a combined material load, consisting of compression and shear stresses, is produced in the lower section (21) when the carrier (8) is loaded vertically. Movements of the carrier (8) in the horizontal direction caused by vibration movements of the object are absorbed by the upper cross-sectional sections (22). <IMAGE>
