<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic method for reduction by the use of a nickel catalyst promoted with silver or gold. <P>SOLUTION: The catalytic method for reducing nitrogen oxides with carbon monoxide comprises a process of causing the nitrogen oxides to contact with a supported catalyst consisting of nickel as the active catalytic component promoted with silver or gold, wherein the silver or gold is present in an amount of 0.001 to 30 wt.% calculated based on the amount of nickel in the catalyst.
