<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift change device for a manual transmission wherein the stroke amount of a shift piece in shifting movement for a reverse stage is longer than that for a forward stage without increasing the weight and dimension of the shift change device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this shift change mechanism for the manual transmission, a shift arm 9 has a single arm extending outward in the radial direction from the center O of turns of the shift arm 9. The arm has an abutment part for a forward stage, which transmits a force to a forward shift piece SP<SB>F</SB>by turns of the shift arm 9 in a selected position for engagement with the shift piece SP<SB>F</SB>, and has an abutment part for a reverse stage which transmits a force to a reverse shift piece SP<SB>R</SB>by turns of the shift arm 9 in a selected position for engagement with the reverse shift piece SP<SB>R</SB>in a part separated from the center O of turns of the shift arm 9 more than the abutment part for the forward stage.
