PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device avoiding the complication of control and the enlargement of a circuit scale, and causing no unnatural feeling to a display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel to which image signals are inputted, and a backlight having a plurality of light sources arranged on a surface that faces the liquid crystal display panel, and also has: an illuminating part controlling the light sources for every area of a plurality of areas; a luminance distribution computing part for computing the luminance distribution of the image signals corresponding to the plurality of areas, and determining the brightness of the light sources for every area; and an illumination control part for controlling the luminance of the light sources for every area of the illuminating part based on the determination of the luminance distribution computing part. The area has a shared area with the other adjacent area, and the light source of the shared area comprises: a light source drive-controlled with the light source in the area; and a light source drive-controlled with the light source in the other area.
