Methods and pharmaceutical compositions for inhibiting tumor cell growth

The present invention is based on the finding that activation of PPARgamma plays a key role in inducing growth arrest and differentiation of certain actively proliferating cells. We show that administration of PPARgamma agonists, such as thiazolidinedione ligands (TZDs), is effective both in vitro and in vivo at inhibiting the proliferation of such cells.
