PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for efficiently dissipating heat generated in an area where image carriers and a transfer belt are in contact with each other. SOLUTION: A copying machine includes the intermediate transfer belt 51 on which toner images are transferred, and the four photoreceptors 10 disposed side by side along one face 51a of the intermediate transfer belt 51. The copying machine includes: a cooling fan 7 for supplying a current of cooling air along the one face 51a; and a moving unit 8 freely moved between a contact position where the photoreceptors 10 are brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt 51 and a separation position where at least some of these photoreceptors 10 are separated from the intermediate transfer belt 51.
