<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, appropriately controlling intake air volume when increasing the number of operating cylinders during idle operation of the internal combustion engine and suppressing variations in idle speed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When transferring from partial-cylinder operation to all-cylinder operation during the idle operation of the internal combustion engine, a base throttle valve opening THCB is changed from a partial-cylinder operation base value THCBIP to an all-cylinder operation base value THCBIA, and also a transient correction term THTR is set to a predetermined value THTR0 (S14). Until predetermined time TTR0 has elapsed from the time of changing, the transient correction term THTR is gradually reduced (S17).
