PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel oil composition for a diesel engine capable of retaining the state of a fuel as the liquid state even under ultra-high pressure as used in a high pressure injection device, retaining the suitable combustion state by maintaining the fuel spraying form, and avoiding trouble such as damage of a nozzle hole of an injector. SOLUTION: The fuel oil composition for the diesel engine contains 5-55 vol.% of a fuel oil base material having a content of naphthenes of 20-80 vol.%, a content of an aromatic hydrocarbon of≤40 vol.%, a 90 vol.% distillation temperature of 315-360°C, and a kauri-butanol value of≥13, and has a distillation property that a 10 vol.% distillation temperature is 180-250°C and a 90 vol.% distillation temperature is 315-360°C. In the composition, a sulfur content is≤10 mass ppm, a saturated hydrocarbon is 75-92 vol.%, an aromatic hydrocarbon is 8-25 vol.%, a content of a bicyclic aromatic group is≤3.5 vol.%, and a content of a polycyclic group having three or more rings is≤1.5 vol.%, a content of naphthenes is 2-45 vol.%, a content of polycyclic naphthenes is≤30 vol.%, and a content of isoparaffin is 15-90 vol.%.
