PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occurrence of misregistration or irregularities of a plurality of colors due to change of a line when forming a multicolor image, and to reduce a level difference due to the change of the line and deterioration of image quality due to interpolation when forming a monochrome image. SOLUTION: A correction means corrects a curve, in a subscanning direction, of a scanning line drawn in a main scanning direction of an image carrier by changing the line read out from a storage means in a predetermined order when scanning one line by a scanning means. An interpolation means interpolates data of one or more pixels located adjacent to a change point when changing the line read out from the storage means. A decision means decides whether to form the multicolor image or the monochrome image. A control means activates the correction means and the interpolation means when forming the multicolor image.
