PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that ensures fixing strength without decreasing printing speed or the thickness of a continuous recording material by preventing toner from sticking to a preheat plate and by reducing thermal deformation of the continuous recording material, thereby eliminating fixing failure. SOLUTION: A contact heat plate is shortened, and it is preheated at a temperature equal to or below the glass transition point of toner.
