<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet type rotary electric machine having a rotor which never has such a phenomenon as cracking, positional deviation, or the like in a fixing joint between a rotor shaft and a holding ring of the permanent magnet type rotary electric machine even if the holding ring extends by heat. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The permanent magnet type rotary electric machine includes a stator 2 made by winding an armature coil 2<SB>-2</SB>around an annular armature core 2<SB>-1</SB>, and a rotor 3 rotatably disposed in a spatial portion formed by the armature core. The rotor 3 is composed of a rotor shaft 4, a holding ring 5 which is joined and fixed to the rotor shaft while covering the outer periphery of the rotor shaft, and a permanent magnet 6 fixed on the inner peripheral surface of the holding ring 5. The holding ring 5 is joined and fixed to the rotor shaft 4 at both ends, and is divided nearly at the center into two parts 5<SB>-1</SB>and 5<SB>-2</SB>in the axis direction, with a gap 8 of a predetermined size formed between the end faces of the divided parts.
