<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction machine capable of improving fuel economy by driving hydraulic motors while further efficiently using energy in response to the circumstances. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This construction machine is provided for driving the traveling hydraulic motors 42L and 42R capable of carrying an absorption quantity by pressure oil delivered by hydraulic pumps 10L and 10R variable in a delivery quantity, and has delivery quantity adjusting means 40L and 40R for variably adjusting the delivery quantity of the hydraulic pumps 10L and 10R between a minimum flow rate and a maximum flow rate, absorption quantity switching means 46L and 46R for switching stepwise the absorption quantity of the traveling hydraulic motors 42L and 42R, and an output characteristic control means 60 for controlling stepwise an output characteristic of the traveling hydraulic motors 42L and 42R by selectively combining a predetermined delivery quantity regulated between the minimum flow rate and the maximum flow rate of the hydraulic pumps 10L and 10R and the absorption quantity of the traveling hydraulic motors 42L and 42R switched stepwise.
