<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon carbide porous body which is used as a base of a diesel particulate filter, has high collection efficiency, suppresses rise of pressure loss, and reduces leakage of PM from collection in the early stage of use. <P>SOLUTION: In the silicon carbide porous body, a mode diameter of a pore number distribution to pore diameters measured as circle area-equivalent diameters by an image analysis method is 8±1 μm, and the total volume of pores having a pore diameter of 40-50 μm occupy ≥10% of the tota volume of all pores. The large-diameter pores having a pore diameter of 40-50 μm have an ant nest-like pore structure linked by small-diameter pores having a pore diameter of 5-20 μm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
