The vertical cutting machine has a cutting portal (6) movable on two tracks (7). The cutting portal has an endlessly revolving cutting tool, left and right work benches (2,5) and left and right side catches (1,4). The cutting portal is movable transverse to the feed direction of the foamed material. The cutting portal is moved into work benches of different lengths by similar work length from the work area. The entire work surface of both work benches is free so that both side catches are moved left and right in arbitrary over the entire work width of both the work benches.
