PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a part which detects radiation rays by providing a hole for radiation transmission through which respective radiation detecting elements can be viewed directly and a measurement part which measures the arrival direction and intensity of the radiation rays from the detection output of a detection part. CONSTITUTION:The radiation measuring instrument is constituted by arranging scintillators 14 which constitute the detection part 13 in plane in a spherical shell type collimator 12 and the small hole 15 is bored at the part of the peak of the collimator 12. A body 25 which has a gamma-ray distribution is arranged in the room 24 surrounded with wall surfaces 21. The collimator 12 is fitted to an opening part 22 provided in the wall surface 21 and an optical guide 16 is led out. The optical guide 16 is connected to a data processing system 26, where detection data on gamma-rays is processed; and obtained data 27 is supplied to a wave height distribution and position analyzing circuit 28 to analyze the wave height. Thus, the plural radiation detecting elements are arranged at the detection part 13, so the detection part for the radiation is designed compactly and the radiation distribution even in a small space is found with sufficient accuracy.
