Disclosed is an organic EL element that achieves high efficiency, low drive voltage, and a long service life by combining various materials for use in an organic EL element having excellent hole and electron injection/transport performance, thin film stability, and durability. The organic electroluminescent element has at least an anodic electrode, a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, a light emission layer, an electron transport layer, and a cathode electrode in this order, and is characterized in that the hole injection layer includes an arylamine compound having three or more triphenyl amine structures in the molecule, the hole transport layer includes an arylamine compound having two triphenyl amine structures in the molecule, and the electron transport layer includes a substituted bipyridyl compound represented by the general formula (1). (In the formula, R1-R7 represent-and these can be identical to or different from one another - a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, a cyano group, a trifluoromethyl group, or a straight-chain or branched alkyl group with a carbon atom number from 1 to 6, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic heterocyclic group, or a substituted or unsubstituted condensed polycyclic aromatic group; n1 represents an integer from 2 to 4; and A1 represents a bivalent-tetravalent group of a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon, a bivalent-tetravalent group of a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic heterocycle, a bivalent-tetravalent group of a substituted or unsubstituted condensed polycyclic aromatic group, or a trivalent group represented by the general formula (2) (in which formula X, Y and Z represent carbon atoms or nitrogen atoms). In addition, when n1 = 2, two bipyridyl structures can be directly bonded to one another, at which time A1 is not a group.)
|
