In a control system for a regeneratively heated coke oven, the air and steam supply to producers 1-4 supplying the heating gas is controlled by a known regulator 19 responsive through a pipe 18 to the pressure in the gas supply conduit 17, during the build-up in back pressure in the pipe 17 caused by the reversal of the regenerators. Gasification air supplied by branch pipes 5 from a conduit 6 is reduced by a valve 22 actuated by a control 21 from the regulator 19. Steam generated in the producer water jackets 8 is supplied by pipes 9 to a closed header 12 from which pipes 7 supply it to the producers. During the reversing period, valve 13 is closed by a control 20 responsive to the regulator 19, the steam required by the producers being controlled manually by the valve 14, excess steam escaping through a bleeder 23. A bleeder pipe with a safety valve is provided in the conduit 17, the regulator 19 being adapted to operate at a pressure below that operating the safety valve. |
