In water storage apparatus for a solar hot water system, a main tank 1 contains and stores water heated by the system, and is supplied with heated water by a solar heat exchanger tank 24 which contains a heat exchanger 22 for transferring heat collected by a solar collector 12 to water in the solar heat exchanger tank. The solar heat exchanger tank is smaller than the main tank and situated adjacent to a lower region of the main tank, the two tanks being connected by connection means (28, 30, 32; fig.3) connecting the solar heat exchanger tank to an inlet 2 of the main tank. Heated water in the solar heat exchanger tank is exchanged, via the connection means, for colder water in the main tank. In use, the use of a shall solar heat exchanger tank adjacent the lower region of the main tank facilitates a compact construction of the apparatus, and the adaptation of an existing conventional water storage system for use as a solar hot water system. Preferably, the solar heat exchanger tank has a volume of not more than one litre. |
