<p>PURPOSE:To accurately detect a moving area in accordance with the size of a moving vector by judging whether block matching operation is to be executed or not by an index expressing the degree of a luminance change. CONSTITUTION:A luminance variation computing part 3 computes the luminance variation S of (M X N) picture elements based on the image data of a main image memory 1 and a sub-image memory 2. A luminance variation memory 4 consists of a two-dimensional array of M rows and N columns and stores the arithmetic result of the luminance variation S. A luminance change deciding part 5 reads out the luminance variation data S of one block from the memory 4 in accordance with a block position specified by a moving vector computing part 6 and computes an average luminance variation SAVE. When the SAVE is more than a previously set threshold STH, a valid signal is outputted to the computing part 6. When the SAVE is less than the threshold STH, an invalid signal is outputted. A moving vector interpolation computing part 8 estimates the moving vector of the block decided as an invalid block from the moving vectors of peripheral blocks and interpolates the moving vector.</p> |
