An apparatus and a method for managing package information about network equipment are provided to rapidly confirm or process the package information by coding the package information. A program division(410) comprises the package information management program. The package information management program is used for the overall operation of the package information management apparatus. A display unit(420) shows the package information registration menu which the program division provides to the outside in order that the administrator recognizes clearly. The command which administrator uses for registering the package information is input to the order-input unit(430). An encoding unit(440) stores the code which is set up in the package information registration menu at the configuration item of the category selection menu provided. A storage(450) stores the configuration item of the category selection menu which is chosen by administrator and the code matched in the decoding unit. A controller(460) indicates the package information registration menu on the display unit.
