<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for performing echo cancellation balancing using a noise generator and average power detection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A communication system includes a transmitting route and a receiving route, a balancing filter, a noise generator, a detector, and an interface. The transmitting route is operable to generate data for communication on a communication network. The receiving route is operable to receive data from the communication network. The balancing filter is connected between the transmitting route and the receiving route. The noise generator is operable to send a noise signal on the receiving route. The detector is operable to measure a reflective power related to the noise signal in the transmitting route. The interface is operable to receive a plurality of factor sets for setting the balancing filter. The detector is operable to measure the reflective power of each factor set.
