PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that occurrence of an image defect such as gloss unevenness is generated by temperature variations occurring in a paper-passing region when a part of a fixing film is cooled by a fan regarding the temperature increase in a non-paper-passing region generated upon the continuous paper-passing of small-sized paper. SOLUTION: The image heating apparatus comprises heat generation bodies H1, H2 for feeding heat to a fixing film 33 which can form a plurality of heat generation distributions in the longitudinal direction, and, upon the start of cooling for the fixing film 33 by a cooling fan 41, the heat generation distribution is changed, and, temperature variations are reduced. Further, the change of the heat generation distribution is performed in such a manner that the heating value in the longitudinal direction region corresponding to the cooling region by the cooling fan 41 is made higher than that before the start of the cooling.
