PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition for ballpoint pens, which can prevent ink from dripping without deteriorating a dry-up performance, even when an ink passage at a pen point is carelessly spread, when used or stored, and is excellent in a writing performance, and to provide a ballpoint pen having the ink composition therein. SOLUTION: Provided is the water-based ink composition for the ballpoint pens, comprising a colorant, water, 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, and at least one wax emulsion selected from oxidized polyethylene and oxidized polypropylene.
