<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus that can recognize a self-position without installing a landmark, a magnetic marker, and the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method in which a mobile body recognizes a self-position, the method includes: a step (a) for measuring reference magnetism in an environment where the mobile body moves and storing, in advance, magnetism-position information that associates the reference magnetism with a position, where the reference magnetism is measured; a step (b) for measuring direct-current actual magnetism in the environment by using a magnetic sensor the mobile body has; and a step (c) for comparing the reference magnetism stored in the step (a) with the actual magnetism measured in the step (b) for identifying the position where the actual magnetism is measured.
