The invention relates to a method for remotely reading consumption data on electric meters in a system comprising isolated electric meters (12, 13, 14) and a consumption data processing server (8). Each isolated electric meter (12, 13, 14) is provided with a communication means (16, 18, 21) for transmitting the consumption data specific thereto via a landline or mobile telephone communication network (9). Consumption data for a plurality of isolated meters (12, 13, 14) is first transmitted via the landline or mobile telephone communication network (9) to a unit ensuring the collection and temporary storage of consumption data for a plurality of isolated meters (12, 13, 14), and the consumption data temporarily stored by said unit (23) is then jointly addressed to the server (8).
