PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easy and efficient production of a polycyclic compound such as an adamantane derivative having a vinyl group. SOLUTION: The polycyclic compound having a vinyl group is produced by reacting a polycyclic compound having a methine carbon atom at a bridgehead position with an acylating agent comprising (A) a 1,2-dicarbonyl compound or its hydroxy-reductant, (B) oxygen, and (C) an imide compound expressed by formula (1) (in the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each an alkyl group or the like; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may be bonded together to form an aromatic ring, etc.; and X is an oxygen atom or the like), etc., and subjecting the reaction product to reduction and dehydration reaction.
