The method involves heating a cleaning fluid e.g. water or cleaning chemical, by using a microwave source (10), and circulating the cleaning fluid to a cooking chamber (2) by using a blower or circulation device. The presence of the cleaning fluid in the chamber is detected by a humidity sensor (46), where the cleaning fluid is heated only when the presence of the cleaning fluid in the chamber is detected. A magnetron of the microwave source is clocked based on a difference between a reference-temperature and actual-temperature of the cleaning fluid. An independent claim is also included for a cooking device comprising a cooking chamber.
