The amplifier has a linear amplifier stage (A1), a class-D-amplifier i.e. TPA3001, stage, and a group of switches (F1n, F1p, F2n, F2p). The amplifier stages receive an input signal (IN), which controls a load (ZL) by an output of the linear amplifier stage. The switches connect the output of the class-D-amplifier stage with a positive supply rail (VDD) or negative supply rail (VSS) of the linear amplifier stage, and other positive or negative supply rail of the linear amplifier stage with the negative or positive supply unit based on the polarity of signals, which are amplified.
