<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for restraining an active material from peeling or slipping off from a collector accompanying expansion and contraction of the active material at charging and discharging, in an electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery includes a collector and an active material layer formed on a surface of the collector. In the electrode, the active material layer includes an active material layer base body having a recess for retaining the active material and containing a conductive material.
