PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for appropriately aligning an image formed on paper.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a photoreceptor 4A for carrying an image to be transferred to the paper; a transfer roller 5A provided opposite to the photoreceptor 4A; a leading edge detection sensor 14A detecting the conveyed state of the paper on an upstream side of a nip part between the photoreceptor 4A and the transfer roller 5A in a paper conveyance path; and a printing head 20, which serves as an image writing part for writing the image on the photoreceptor 4A and starts writing the image before detection by the leading edge detection sensor 14A. By moving the photoreceptor 4A and the transfer roller 5A positionally, and by making a mirror 19A that performs exposure rotate, based on the result of detection by the leading edge detection sensor 14A, the position of the nip part is corrected.
