PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method which reduce the gap of exposure timing due to electrical noise generated around a light receiving sensor outputting a BD signal. SOLUTION: A light source is emitted at a prescribed blink pattern when the deflection direction of a light beam by a deflection means is turned to the side of a light receiving sensor, based on judgement timing that a light receiving pattern at the light receiving sensor agrees with the blink pattern, a control of emitting the light source based on image data for exposing a photosensitive body is started. In the case the light receiving pattern does not agree with the blink pattern, the control of emitting the light source is not started, and therefore, the gap of exposure timing caused by electrical noise generated around the light receiving sensor can be reduced.
