PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking method by which the yield is improved, water filtering and water drainage properties are ameliorated and productivity is improved, without damaging the formation in the papermaking process of paper and paperboard. SOLUTION: The papermaking method includes adding an yield-improving agent comprising a cationic or ampholytic acrylamide-based copolymer as a first step into a papermaking stock before papermaking, and adding a water-soluble polymer having a molecular weight lower than the yield-improving agent as a second step after passing one or more shearing steps in the papermaking process.
