The method involves providing an immersed roller, and a dosing roller resting on the immersed roller. A contact pressure of one of the immersed roller and dosing roller and/or offsetting of one roller relative to the other roller is adjusted by a motor based on measurement of a dot gain over printing width and/or measurement of color density within a side edge-near region and/or change of width of print format and/or width of a subject. Color solution conveying amount of a dampening device (6) is reduced until the dot gain increases in a print sheet-measuring field.
