<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely suppress an optical disk from being scratched, at loading/unloading. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The base unit includes: a thread to which the objective lens of an optical pickup is attached; a base member 308 having a disk table for rotatably holding an optical disk and supporting the thread to move; a cover place 320 abutting against the upper surface of the base member 308 to cover the base member 308; and a retreating surface 334 disposed in the peripheral edge of the base member 308 to form a gap between the retreating surface and the cover plate.
