PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external preparation containing nonsteroid painkilling and antiinflammatory agent (especially amfenac or a salt thereof), having improved penetrability of the painkilling and antiinflammatory agent to the skin, exhibiting the effects at a low concentration and having excellent beautiful appearance. SOLUTION: The external preparation includes (A) the nonsteroid painkilling and antiinflammatory agent, (B) a terpene and/or an essential oil containing the terpene, and (C) a higher alcohol.
