PURPOSE: A different material joining method for a steel material and a light alloy material is provided to secure a contact surface between a ferrous rivet and the steel material and a planarity of a rivet input part of an aluminum alloy material. CONSTITUTION: A different material joining method for a steel material and a light alloy material is as follows. A light alloy and a metal rivet(1) are joint in advance by a former spot welding process, and then the rivet and the steel material are spot welded. A grooved part(6) for a caulking is formed on the rivet. The light alloy material is caulked in the rivet by performing a plastic flow the light alloy material to the inside of the groove part when a rivet shaft is buried and penetrated to the light alloy material. And then, the spot welding forming a welding nugget in the interface range between the rivet and the steel material is performed.
