The assembly to soften raw water has two softening columns (1,2) containing an exhaustive and regenerating water treatment agent. One column is linked to the inflow pipe (3) through valves (5a-5d) which also disconnect the flow to the other column. A control (5) establishes the rate of exhaustion of the treatment agent in the columns to determine which of them should take the raw water inflow. The treatment agent is exhausted in stages alternately in the columns. The control is linked to a flow meter (6) to register the flow volumes. The control also sets the regeneration of the treatment agent.
