The compound of formula (I): (see formula I) namely (2S)-2-amino-4-{[2-(ethanimidoylamino)ethyl]thio}butanoic acid, compound with phosphoric acid, or a hydrate thereof, is useful as a relatively non- hygroscopic selective inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase; previously identified salt forms of (2S) -2- amino-4-{[2- ethanimidoylamino)ethyl]thio}butanoic acid are known to be hygroscopic. The compound of formula (I) or a hydrate thereof does not readily absorb moisture from the atmosphere, is easier to isolate, formulate and handle, and finds use in the prophylaxis or treatment of clinical conditions such as arthritis, asthma, rhinitis, an inflammatory condition or immune disorder of the skin, an inflammatory condition or immune disorder of the eye, ileus, migraine, pain and irritable bowel syndrome.
